St Pete Catholic @ Shorecrest - Loss 1-0

The Chargers got off to a sluggish start to the 2009/2010 season with a 1-0 loss to St. Pete Catholic. The teams were evenly matched in terms of skill, but Shorecrest could not match the Baron's intensity for much of the game. Offensively, the team created a few chances early on only to be turned back by a solid defense. Quick counters by the opponent could have accounted for more goals, but Hunter T., Ian J-S. Phillip M., and Thomas K. played well in the back. When the defense did break down, goalkeeper Ahmed D. came up big with 9 saves on 13 shots. St. Pete did eventually capitalize on a turnover in the Charger's defensive third to take a 1-0 lead early in the second half. It wasn't until after the 2nd half water break that Shorecrest picked up the pressure as they looked for the equalizer. The Barons held strong though and kept the Chargers off of the scoreboard handing the team their first defeat. The team will look to rebound against conference foe Indian Rocks on Monday.
