For most of the game, neither team was able to muster much offense. The 0-0 score at half was indicative of the equality of play and it looked as if the game was destined to be a draw. With 15 minutes to play though, Alistair F. took a deflection and used some nifty footwork to set up a left footed blast from 25 yards out. The keeper was able to get a hand on it, but it just had too much power to be stopped. The unassisted goal put the Chargers up 1-0 and they never looked back.
The win was important for a number of reasons. An 0-3 start would have been difficult to swallow, considering the team could have realistically won all 3 matches this season. Cambridge was a late addition to the district which means the Chargers are undefeated in district play at the moment. Lastly, the boys came together as a team to get a big victory without a full squad.
Hopefully, the momentum will continue tomorrow night at 7 p.m. against Santa Fe Catholic. The forecast calls for 50% rain, so come prepared.
