Shorecrest vs St. Stephen's - Tie 2-2

Shorecrest came out with something to prove after two embarrassing losses earlier in the week. With the first place seed in the district on the line, the Chargers showed that they were still a force to be reckoned with. They pressured the opening kick off and held St. Stephen's in their own 1/3 for the first five minutes. The high pressure resulted in a corner kick where Alistair F. was taken down in the box. The Chargers were awarded a penalty kick and Alistair converted for a 1-0 lead. Shorecrest continued to control the tempo as they worked the lines. Unfortunately, a deflection was saved by Ahmed D. only to go off the crossbar to a charging opponent. He headed the ball into the goal to tie the game at 1-1. Minutes later the Chargers intensity paid off again when a hand ball was called in the box for another penalty kick opportunity. This time, Alistair F. placed the ball in the identical spot for a 2-1 lead. As the second half began, the Chargers had no plans to alter their play for the first 20 minutes, as they had dominated up until that point. Shorecrest would go to a 5-4-1 at the water break in hopes of securing the victory and first place in the district. As the subs awaited at the midline for the formation change, a foul in the box changed everything. A penalty kick was awarded to St. Stephen's, and although Ahmed D. got a hand on it, it still had enough power to make it across the line to tie the game. The momentum had changed and the Chargers had to come up big defensively as a team to hold on to the tie.

They are still undefeated in the district and hold their fate in their own hands as they take on their last two district opponents next week.
