The coach from Westminster repeatedly called out "Tortuga!" to one of his players up top. Unfortunately, it was the Chargers who personified la tortuga in the first half resulting in an early 2-0 deficit. The opponents scored their first goal off of a play identical to a drill the Chargers had worked on earlier in the week - a combination in the middle with a long ball to the corner to a streaking wing. A few minutes later, a long throw-in wasn't handled cleanly resulting in a second goal. The ball didn't clear the penalty box and was eventually poked in by the other team. Overall, the midfield was sluggish, the defense's touch was off, and the strikers couldn't get off clean shots.
In the second half, the team played much better. More intensity, better touch in the back, and improved marking in the center of the field help create numerous scoring chances for Shorecrest. In the end though, the team just couldn't convert. Although the tide had changed, Wesminster was able to put in another two goals off of mistakes in the defensive third. The final tally was 0-4. Next up Berkeley Prep on Wednesday.
