The varsity boys team destroyed Carrollwood Day School 7-1 on Tuesday afternoon. The team started strong with early pressure, but could not put the ball in the back of the net. Despite many good looks, most shots were directed right at the opposing keeper. The team was finally able to put one in before the half when Rheese W. sent a free kick in off of the crossbar. the ball popped up just in front of the goal mouth where Jake D. headed it into the net.
The second half was played equally well, but with much better results in the goal department. The flood gates opened after Rheese W. struck a well placed freekick around a misplaced wall from just outside the box. A few minutes later Rheese was taken down in the box and made the ensuing PK for a 3-0 lead. Zach F. made it 4-0 after he one-timed a nice cross from Rheese from the back post to beat the keeper. Rheese scored his third goal of the game on pass from Max. F. and a deflection from twenty out to put the team up 5-0. He then capped his scoring with a ball from KJ. N. on a ball that hit the back post dribbled across the line and was then saved by the goalie. The referee was well positioned and called and whistled that a goal had been scored. Carrollwood got on the board with a header to make the score 6-1 before Steven W. scored the final goal of the game on a PK after he was pushed in the box on a corner kick.
Defensively, the team was rock solid creating many of the counter attacks by stepping to balls as they pushed forward.
Next up is district and conference foe, Northside. A win and the team is in the Bay Conference final.
