Shorecrest vs Northside Christian Win 4-3
The Chargers won another Northside nailbiter 4-3 after letting the Mustangs come back from two deficits. It was a seesaw game in the first half with Northside controlling the ball and the tempo for the first 10 minutes of the game. Shorecrest then took control as they patiently moved the ball from wing to wing. They also used the corners well which set up the first goal. Caelum S. crossed in a great ball to the back post that Brian G. handled brilliantly. His shot went across the face of the goal where Steven W. poked it into the back of the net. A few minutes later the Chargers earned a free kick outside of the box. Matt R. took the kick only to have it deflected. He quickly collected it and sent a laser into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. The team continued to push, but gave up a counter attack goal after a busted corner (I took the blame as I specifically sent Steven T. up into the box leaving us shorthanded in the back). With less than two minutes on the clock, a hard shot slipped through the hands of Jared E. knotting the game at 2-2. In the second half, the Chargers continued to press and took advantage of another Matt R. long throw when Jules J. connected for his third header of the season to take a 3-2 lead. For some strange reason though, the momentum swung back to Northside. Shorecrest scrambled defensively and looked confused offensively as the Mustangs pressed for the equalizer eventually scoring the tying goal with three minutes left. Determined to fight, the team didn't quit. Just after the two minute mark, Steven W. received a ball at the top the box and dropped it to a waiting Matt R. who cranked in his second monster shot of the game. The team, stands, and bench went wild as the Chargers took a 4-3 lead that held up for the win. Although the team is only 2-4, they are 1-0 in district play.
